When you consider hair extensions, one of the first things that will come to your mind is whether to choose a synthetic option or go with natural human hair. Some people are hesitant to spend big bucks on the real deal, while other think synthetic hair doesn’t offer much. But, not everyone expects the same of their hair extensions- some are looking for temporary solutions, other for a more permanent one, and when it comes to styling, we all have different wishes and ideas how our hair should look.
Depending on what you need and expect from your hair extensions, both types can work for you really well.
Natural human hair extensions
As the name suggests, these hair extensions are made from real human hair, therefore, they offer more natural look and more options when it comes to styling.
Natural human hair extensions can be styled same as your own locks- you can straighten them, curl them, and even dye them to match your current hair color, but that also means more maintenance and hair care. You’ll need to wash them regularly and condition and nurture your extensions same as you do with your own hair.
The natural look and a wide range of options also comes with a much bigger price, so, if you’re on a budget, this might be a big disadvantage to human hair extensions.
Synthetic hair extensions
Made from synthetic fibers, this type of hair extension is much lower in price than human hair, but, that comes with some limitations too.
First of all, they won’t last you more than six months, so if you’re looking to try out something new, they’re great, but in case you’re looking for a more permanent solution- not so much. Quality of the synthetic hair extensions varies with the manufacturer, so, you can find anything from shiny, and obviously fake hair to better, more refined versions that are more similar to natural hear, but, all in all, no synthetic hair extensions can ever completely mimic the look, feel and texture of real human hair. You can’t sleep with your extensions or wash them- this could damage them and matt them.
Synthetic hair can’t be dyed, and, if you don’t buy a heat resistant synthetic extension, you won’t be able to style it either. On the other hand, most synthetic hair extensions come pre-styled- curly, wavy or straight, so, if you have a preference when it comes to styling, you won’t have any problems, especially if you live in hot and humid areas- your hair will always look perfectly styled.
Each type of hair extensions has its flaws and virtues. Natural hair requires more maintenance and costs more, but it also offers a more natural look and is more durable, but on the other hand, synthetic hair has more budget-friendly prices, and it can be a great way to try out something new and fun with your hair, without a commitment.
Whatever you decide, you can’t go wrong- everyone’s different, so not every person has the same needs when it comes to hair extensions.
